Concerts, stage productions, teaching projects, recordings: the production department encourages the spread of French Baroque music worldwide thanks to its partnerships.
Setting as its mission to promote France’s 17th and 18th century musical heritage, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles covers all repertoires, from chamber music, sacred music and symphonies to theatrical genres such as the tragédie lyrique, opéra-ballet, opéra-comique and ballet.
As such, the CMBV works with leading French early music ensembles, as well as with vocal and instrumental soloists specialising in baroque repertoire, and stage designers specialising in baroque performing arts.
Every year the CMBV produces or co-produces around thirty arts projects, including concerts, stage productions and teaching projects, as well as repeat performances. Around fourty events take place each year in France, throughout Europe and around the world. Emblematic productions are staged in the palace of Versailles, home of its musical legacy.
Thanks to its partnerships, some CMBV arts projects are recorded and broadcast worldwide.
Part of the CMBV’s mission is to initiate or support ambitious or atypical projects which would otherwise not see the light of day. It has a flexible role and, according to the project, can provide:
- Musicological, historical and artistic expertise;
- Input from its experts (researchers, publishers, musicians, teaching & administrative staff) and its partners (coproducers, venues & record labels);
- Archives & sheet music;
- Its collection of musical instruments, accessories, costumes and stage sets;
- Rehearsal studios;
- Financial backing for innovative projects.
