Producing a French Baroque music concert requires a few essential skills in order to serve the work and support the artists in the best possible way. Aimed at production teams, orchestra librarians and music publishers, the workshop offered by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles combines educational content and practical exercises to explore the specificities of the ‘French-style’ ensemble. With this essential knowledge and these indispensable references, professionals will be equipped to answer the many questions that may arise during a production featuring French Baroque repertoire.
Objectives
Combining educational content and practical exercises, the workshop will explore the specific characteristics of the French-style ensemble. Its aim is to provide tools adapted to the implementation of an artistic production of the French Baroque repertoire, enabling participants to:
- Understand and assimilate definitions, vocabulary and specific concepts
- Analyse the historical context and understand its developments
- Find and use sources and scores
- Identify and correct frequently made mistakes and adopt best practices

Bénédicte Hertz, researcher (CMBV - CESR)
Between 2005 and 2020, Bénédicte Hertz held successive positions as music copyist and orchestra librarian at the Orchestre national de Lyon (conductor Jun Märkl), then as librarian-musicologist at Les Talens Lyriques (conductor Christophe Rousset). She is currently a researcher at the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CESR, UMR 7323). Her work focuses on 18th century French music, particularly musical practices in the provinces, heritage collections and the dissemination of repertoires. Since 2022, she has been coordinating the AcadéC project (Académies de Concert en France au XVIIIe siècle), funded by the French National Research Agency and co-directed with Thomas Vernet (Fondation Royaumont).
Thomas Leconte, researcher and editorial manager (CMBV - CESR)
Thomas Leconte is a researcher at the Research Centre of the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, where he is also editorial manager of heritage collections. His research focuses mainly on social, religious and court music of the Grand Siècle (functions, repertoires, musical practices, identities). In addition, his historical, theoretical and practical knowledge of 17th and 18th century orchestral and choral writing frequently leads him to reconstruct the missing parts of works in the repertoire. He is currently working on a project (research, reconstruction, edition) on Lalande's Symphonies pour les Soupers du roi. He regularly collaborates with professional ensembles as a scientific advisor (concerts, recordings).
