The Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is hosting a new session of the research seminar from the Centre d’études supérieures de la Renaissance (Tours), as part of the research axis “European Stage: Performing Arts and the Performance of the Arts.”
This session draws upon the research experience of various contributors who have worked in family archives across Europe. Its aim is to explore how relationships between patrons and artists were established, and to identify precisely how the latter appeared in administrative and financial records as well as in private correspondence.
We propose that examining theatrical, musical, and choreographic activities through their presence within aristocratic families can lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms underpinning artistic life as a whole.
