Programme
Jacques Duponchel (? -1685)
André Campra (1660-1744)
This programme showcases the genre of the short motet for three male voices, as part of the graduation recital by Flavien Lecomte, Chantre at the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles.
In the 17th century, the short motet established itself as one of composers’ favourite forms, both for its practicality – owing to its small ensemble – and for the possibilities it offered from a musical and dramatic perspective.
Featuring both the great masters of the genre and lesser-known composers, this programme brings together iconic works and little-known gems. From the Italianate style to the French taste, from the solemn to the dramatic, it reveals the full richness of the short motet, including several previously unpublished pieces by Bouteiller and Charpentier.
