Mathieu Lussier, artistic director of Arion Baroque Orchestra in Montreal, is passionate about French Baroque music. His collaboration with the CMBV since 2021 has already produced two record albums, the first devoted to music at the royal table from the time of Lalande through to Francœur, and the second featuring music by neglected late 18^th century composer Henri-Joseph Rigel. This year focuses on François Giroust, the Royal Chapel’s last Music Master during the reign of Louis XVI. Two iconic works feature – his Super flumina Babilonis motet for which he was awarded the Concert Spirituel sacred music prize in 1767, and his Coronation Mass which was performed in 1775 and later at the inauguration of the General Assembly in 1789. Mathieu Lussier then offers Mozart’s famous Requiem - in a version modified for French audiences and premiered in Paris under the Empire.
