The Centre de musique baroque de Versailles hosts a new session of the CESR research seminar organised by the ‘European Stage: Performing Arts, Performance of the Arts’ research strand, devoted to questions of circulation within European theatre.
Building on research carried out as part of the ThéPARis and ThéPARis-France projects, this session will explore circulation, transfers and cross-connections within seventeenth- and eighteenth-century European theatre. By bringing together the study of professional mobility, family transmission and the fluidity of roles between actors and singers with an analysis of processes of adaptation, translation and the hybridisation of dramatic forms from one tradition to another, it will highlight the ways in which repertoires, skills and performance practices circulated, interacted and were reinvented across Europe.
