Nicolas Bernier (1664-1734)
CMBV choir Les Pages and Les Écuyères of the Académie Équestre de Versailles combine their expertise to offer a choreographed and spatialised interpretation of Nicolas Bernier's petits motets, an emblematic repertoire of Les Pages.
For many years, Bernier's petits motets have occupied a central place in the work of CMBV choir Les Pages. Most often written for two equal voices, these works, rich in vocality strongly inspired by the Italian style and varied in structure—alternating lively choruses, recitatives, solo arias and suspended tutti—offer a unique terrain for exploration, revealing the vocal palette of these young performers.
This musical richness has given rise to a desire to open up new perspectives for interpretation, creating a tableau that is as visual as it is auditory. Who better than the Académie Équestre, familiar with baroque choreographic language and seasoned in the art of creation, to take up this challenge alongside Les Pages?
Under the direction of Clément Buonomo, three motets of praise will be revisited in the grand manège, in a new form combining spatialisation and choreography, where song and movement interact to better reveal the excellence of these two ensembles.
