The mission of the Fonds de dotation du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is to pass on and share the Baroque heritage with the public and to support young talents.
As the home of the French Baroque, the CMBV has been committed to support since 1987 both artists and researchers who bring the repertoire to life, as well as guiding diverse audiences in the discovery of this exceptional musical heritage.
The Fonds de dotation du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles brings together individual patrons and companies who share its values of transmission, intergenerational philanthropy and to promote better and wider access to culture, in three main areas:
- Supporting young baroque talents and audiences, by appealing to the generosity of patrons to award scholarships to the CMBV's Chantres and Chantresses, as well as providing the necessary support for large-scale productions
- Enhancing the CMBV's heritage collections to offer young artists more resources, by developing the range of instruments available to musicians and ensembles, by creating new stage costumes for the choir of Pages and Chantres of the CMBV choir scool, and by publishing new scores that will contribute to the discovery and diffusion of this heritage.
- Renovation of the Nobility Wing of the Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs, home of the French Baroque, by building up a first-rate instrumental park of historic instruments (harpsichords, pianofortes and organs) or those built by the world's finest makers - including the purchase of the oldest French harpsichord in playing condition!

CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN: BRINGING THE VINGT-QUATRE VIOLONS DU ROI BACK TO LIFE
The Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is launching a crowdfunding campaign to complete the reconstruction of the Vingt-quatre Violons du Roi, an orchestra that disappeared over 300 years ago. Six bass viols and twenty-eight bows are still needed to restore this emblem of French music.
A Unique Reconstruction
The CMBV is dedicated to recreating these long-lost instruments through the collaboration of luthiers, researchers and musicians. The final stage of the project involves crafting six bass viols and a set of twenty-eight French bows, thereby restoring the orchestra’s full instrumentation.
A Collective Challenge
To bring this exceptional heritage back to life, the CMBV is calling on public support. The goal is to raise €40,000 by 31 December 2025. Every contribution brings us closer to the revival of this legendary orchestra and helps preserve a vital chapter of French musical history.
