Budapest continue to honour Rameau! After Les Fêtes de Polymnie (2014), Naïs (2017) and Les Indes galantes (2018), the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles and conductor György Vashegyi have chosen to showcase Dardanus.

The CMBV and its Hungarian partners are anxious to resurrect and record hitherto unpublished works by the greatest French baroque composer of the 18th century, namely Jean-Philippe Rameau. They will be giving the world premiere of the 1744 version of Dardanus. Although hailed by Rameau enthusiasts as a masterpiece of balance and refinement, this reworked version has never been performed again in its entirety. With input from current research on the composer and the recent publication of the work by Denis Herlin for the Rameau Opera Omnia collection, this production of Dardanus features some incredibly beautiful passages. Today’s leading repertoire orchestra and choir is accompanied by a prestigious cast. The long-suffering lovers are performed by Judith Van Wanroij and Cyrille Dubois, and the jealous rival by Tassis Christoyannis.
