To mark the France-Brazil Season 2025, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is reviving its French Baroque Music Week in Rio de Janeiro, combining masterclasses, lectures, rehearsals and concerts with the UNIRIO University Baroque Orchestra, founded and conducted by flutist Laura Rónai, bringing together musicians from all over Brazil.
Between 2016 and 2021, the CMBV forged a strong partnership with several cultural actors in Rio de Janeiro, creating a French Baroque Music Week aimed at a diverse audience—students, amateurs, and professionals. As part of the France-Brazil Season 2025, organised by the Institut français, the CMBV is reviving this unifying and emblematic event.
The main local partner involved, the Baroque Orchestra of UNIRIO University (OBU), founded and directed by flutist Laura Rónai, is welcoming musicians from all over Brazil for the occasion. Masterclasses, lectures, chamber music rehearsals and orchestral training will enable singers and instrumentalists alike to familiarise themselves with the French repertoire.
On Saturday 11 October, the week will end with a colourful closing concert featuring a series of French works.
