BWV 227 Jesu meine Freude
BWV 230 Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden
Jean-Sébastien Bach
This new season of Jeudis musicaux, weekly performances by CMBV choirs Les Pages & Les Chantres in the Royal Chapel at Versailles, is based on three themes devised by Fabien Armengaud and Clément Buonomo.
The Sleeping Beauties theme offers a chance to hear rarely or never-performed works, such as Messe à six voix by Jean Colin, symphonies by Charles Desmazures or motets from the Tours et Deslauriers manuscripts. Italy in Paris will showcase French composers strongly influenced by Italian music such as Nicolas Bernier, André Campra and of course Marc-Antoine Charpentier. The final theme, Choral Masterpieces, will include works by Britten, Monteverdi and Bach. Damien Guillon, the 2024-2025 conductor-in-residence with the CMBV choir school, will conduct two famous cantata by Bach, namely BWV 4 Christ Lag in Todesbanden and BWV 131 Aus der Tiefen.
The CMBV choir school at the Jeudis musicaux concerts will be joined by musicians from Versailles Grand Parc, Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris and Paris-Saclay regional conservatoires. Each week organ students from the Paris national conservatoire will play the magnificent Clicquot/Boisseau-Cattiaux organ in the Royal Chapel.
This season promises a host of new music and surprises!
