The Correspondances ensemble and CMBV choir Les Pages directed by Sébastien Daucé recreate the pomp and splendour of Louis XIV’s coronation ceremony.
In Reims cathedral on 7th June 1654, Louis Dieudonné de Bourbon was crowned King of France and became Louis XIV. This highly important ceremony in the life of a Monarch, imbued with religious drama, was designed to impress. In full regalia, Reims cathedral received the great and the good from across France and Europe. The painstakingly unearthed scores of the music played at this holy consecration reflect the resplendent decor, opulent staging and the impressive number of instruments and musicians in the cathedral. This splendid music at long last recovered, Sébastien Daucé and his ensemble Correspondances along with the CMBV Pages will resuscitate Louis XIV’s coronation in the Royal Chapel at the Palace of Versailles. A truly immersive experience bringing to life one of the greatest ceremonies in the history of France.
