Following the government's decisions on coronavirus COVID-19, this event is postponed to a later date.
The CMBV has joined forces with the Château de Versailles research centre for its first day seminar on the royal supper ritual (Grand Couvert) based on Lalande’s iconic Symphonies pour les Soupers du Roi.
Michel-Richard de Lalande’s Symphonies pour les Soupers du Roi are among the best known examples of 17th and 18th century French musical heritage, although they are paradoxically little recognised. In conjunction with the CRCV (Château de Versailles research centre), a cross-discipline team of historians, musicologists and musicians will be investigating the function, implications and specific features of the Symphonies pour les Soupers du Roi. To further understanding, the workshop will appraise the royal supper ritual from a historical, historiographical and methodological point of view. On the strength of major studies and the latest research findings about royal supper rituals in 17th and 18th century Europe, this unique approach will be used to investigate, scrutinise and perhaps reappraise essential aspects of the Grand Couvert ritual via its music.
