Les Boréades
Tragédie lyrique in Five Acts (1763)
Music by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764)
Libretto by Louis de Cahusac (1706-1759)
Culminating the nine year partnership between the CMBV and György Vashegyi and his Orfeo Orchestra, is a new production of Rameau’s masterpiece Les Boréades.
The CMBV’s collaboration with Hungarian conductor György Vashegyi and his Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir ensembles, commenced in 2014 to mark the anniversary of the death of Jean-Philippe Rameau with a recording of Fêtes de Polymnie. It now comes to a close with the recording of another of Rameau’s operas, Les Boréades, to be followed by an international tour starring Sabine Devieilhe and Reinoud Van Mechelen. Les Boréades, the composer’s final work, was premiered posthumously in the late 20th century and is one of the finest French tragédies lyriques of the 17th and 18th centuries. Thanks to contributions from musicologist Sylvie Bouissou, the CMBV has addressed historically informed practices which offer a fresh interpretation and new vision of the score, with the support of György Vashegyi who for the last ten years has encouraged CMBV research and integrated research findings.
