The CMBV choir Les Chantres joins forces with the La Tempesta ensemble and soloists under the direction of Patrick Bismuth, to present to the public a rediscovered opéra-ballet by André Campra intitled Le Destin du Nouveau Siècle.
The discovery of a lost work by a French baroque composer as important as André Campra is a momentous event! The score of the Le Destin du Nouveau Siècle was unearthed in 2015 from Saint-Denis library. The opéra-ballet was composed for the yearly festivities of the prestigious Jesuit college Louis-le-Grand in 1700. Violinist Patrick Bismuth and his ensemble La Tempesta take it to the stage in a production featuring the CMBV choir Les Chantres. Audiences will have hear a masterpiece composed by André Campra for pupils at the prestigious Paris college. The prologue and three interludes play out a confrontation between Gods and Mortals who must choose their destiny – that of entering a ‘new century’ under the auspices of Glory and War or of Art and Peace. At the brink of the 18th century, these two contrasting world visions clash – which will win through?
