The Compagnie Outre Mesure invites you to honour the artists of La Pléiade, famous poets of the Renaissance, with songs from the 16th century.
With its creation and double album devoted to La Pléiade en musique, the Compagnie Outre Mesure honours the famous poets of La Pléiade. Of the thirty or so texts on offer, two-thirds of the programme are by authors from this circle. The company has also added verses by Mellin de Saint-Gelais and songs in voix de ville form collected by Jehan Chardavoine.
Numerous 16th century composers, equally famous in their own fields, set these verses to music: Jacques Arcadelt, Pierre Clereau, Clément Janequin, Didier Le Blanc, Adrian Le Roy, Jacques Mauduit, Nicolas, Pierre Phalèse, Dominique Phinot and Pierre Sandrin. The company has entrusted Pascale Boquet and Marc Busnel with the task of providing 4 musical parts for the melodies collected by Jehan Chardavoine, as the contemporary minstrel practice of the authors of La Pléiade was polyphonic.
