The CMBV’s historical oboes reproduced for the 2024 Lully’s Atys project are heading to London for the Science Museum’s exhibition entitled Versailles: Science and Splendour.
Invited by the French Institute in the UK, the CMBV will describe the scientific research that went into the rebuilding of 17th century French oboes. For the occasion, the instruments will be presented by artistic director and researcher Benoît Dratwicki, and played by members of the Sarbacane ensemble under Neven Lesage. The programme features works for both French and English oboes.
For the production of Lully’s Atys in 2024, the CMBV commissioned replicas of historical French oboes from instrument makers Thierry Bertrand, Olivier Clémence, Henri Gohin and Alberto Ponchio, generously funded by major CMBV sponsor Romain Durand (of Durand Milanolo instruments).
