With a particular focus on the motet, a genre emblematic of French music under the Ancien Régime, the aim is to understand how this ‘modern’ paraliturgical and polymorphous music (chapel motet, grand motet, petit motet, etc.) fits into the liturgical framework, what its place and function are in the curriculum, and how it is constructed and evolves.
This project has led to the publication of several collections of petits motets and grands motets by Editions du CMBV, including those by Pierre Robert and Henry du Mont.
