With Nicholas McGegan conducting, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles choir Les Chantres will appear in the new production of Leclair’s Scylla et Glaucus alongside Véronique Gens, with performances in San Francisco and Versailles.

Rameau reigned as undisputed master of French opera and few composers dared compete with him. Leclair, however, took up the challenge and did brilliantly! His Scylla et Glaucus has proved to be one of the most impressive scores in the entire repertoire of the Académie Royale de Musique. Like Charpentier with his Médée, the opera ranked Leclair among the greatest baroque composers. The score is published by the CMBV and has already served at several concerts, stage productions and recordings. This will be a landmark production - for the first time in over thirty years, after its premiere in San Francisco, Scylla et Glaucus will be staged in France, and, what is more, at the Palace of Versailles! With Nicholas McGegan conducting, Véronique Gens will take on the sublime role of Circe backed by a prestigious cast, the CMBV choir Les Chantres (coached by Olivier Schneebeli) and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.
