As part of the ANR Anches research project, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is organising a study day devoted to the various approaches to reed-making for historical instruments, exploring the study of original models, the transmission of craftsmanship and experimentation.
How should reeds for historical instruments be made? Should one faithfully reproduce the rare surviving original reeds? Rely on traditional craftsmanship? Adapt modern methods used for orchestral instruments? Or radically reinvent approaches, searching for what works best?
Leading maker-researchers, renowned for their bold and in-depth approaches to their craft, will discuss these questions during a day dedicated to sharing experiences and expertise.
