Henry Du Mont (1610-1684)
To mark the 400th anniversary of Louis Couperin’s birth, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles choir Les Pages join a host of guest keyboard players, as well as musicians from the Paris National Conservatoire of Music and Dance (CNSMDP) and the Paris Conservatoire (CRR), for an exceptional evening conceived by the titular organists of Saint-Gervais church, at the very heart of a place emblematic of the composer’s history.
It was at Saint-Gervais that Louis Couperin became the first organist of a long family dynasty. To celebrate this anniversary, the current titular organists are inviting a host of fellow keyboard players, musicians from the CNSMDP and the Paris Conservatoire, as well as the CMBV choir Les Pages.
The works for organ, harpsichord and viols by this great master will be performed alongside those of his contemporaries, notably the motets of Henry Du Mont, during a long evening of sharing and celebration. In this place steeped in history, around an instrument that still preserves the sounds he would have known, this tribute will honour one of the key figures of French music throughout the centuries.
