After its first French tour in 2025, the staged recreation of Campra’s Le Carnaval de Venise arrives at the Opéra Royal de Versailles. Conducted by Camille Delaforge at the head of the Il Caravaggio ensemble and staged by Clédat & Petitpierre, this opéra-ballet created in 1699 brings the fantasy of the Venetian carnival back to life, blending romantic intrigues, dance, Commedia dell’arte and Italianate music. Edited by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, this work of exceptional theatrical and musical quality continues its journey on the French stage in a production supported by the CMBV since its staged recreation.
Edited by the CMBV and recorded following a series of concerts with Le Concert Spirituel in 2010, as part of the “Grandes Journées Campra”, Le Carnaval de Venise was subsequently recreated as a staged production in the United States, as part of a co-production with the Boston Early Music Festival in 2016.
For the third time, the CMBV is turning its attention to this work of exceptional theatrical and musical quality, this time to support its French staged recreation, in co-production with la co[opéra]tive and numerous theatres. Directed by Clédat & Petitpierre and conducted by Camille Delaforge at the head of the Il Caravaggio ensemble, the production continues its journey following the enthusiastic reception of its premiere.
