Cadmus et Hermione
Musical tragedy in one prologue and five acts (1673)
Music by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687)
Booklet by Philippe Quinault (1635-1688)
As part of its research and performance practice project devoted to the interpretation of Lully's operas, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles is joining forces with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques for a new production of Cadmus et Hermione at the Philharmonie de Paris, with Les Pages and Les Chantres.
Passionate about the work of Jean-Baptiste Lully, harpsichordist and conductor Christophe Rousset is about to complete his recording of the composer's complete operas with Cadmus et Hermione, a musical tragedy created in 1673 — the first fruit of the collaboration between Lully and Quinault, and a work that is still rarely performed today, both on stage and in concert.
For the occasion, the CMBV is joining this long-standing project and, in close dialogue with the performers, is offering a reading and interpretation of the literary, musical and iconographic sources based on the latest discoveries in research and historically informed practice, engaging in a renewed musical and theatrical approach to the score.
Les Talens Lyriques, joined by Les Pages and Les Chantres of the CMBV prepared by Fabien Armengaud, will undoubtedly present a truly unprecedented Cadmus et Hermione.
