Les Surprises pursues its joint residency project in Périgueux with the CMBV, offering a programme of French sacred music including two magnificent Te deums by Charpentier and Desmarest.
Everyone knows the opening bars of Charpentier‘s Te Deum but few have heard of Henry Desmarest’s equally magnificent so-called Te Deum de Lyon? Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas has chosen to showcase these two works edited by CMBV researchers, in the third chapter of his joint residency with the CMBV at the Périgueux Festival. It captures the religious fervour that reigned in France during the baroque Grand Siècle and Age of Enlightenment. With musicians and singers from Les Surprises accompanied by a team of repertoire soloists, this young conductor, student of Hervé Niquet, rises to the challenge of promoting a repertoire rarely featured in concerts and recordings.
