This presentation text refers to the old program initially planned around Mondoville and Rameau motets.
This splendid music from the French Age of Enlightenment is performed under the direction of György Vashegyi, marking his enduring collaboration with the CMBV. The concert features exquisite motets by Mondonville, greatly acclaimed at the time, and by Rameau, France’s consummate harmonist.
After a first album featuring four of Mondonville’s grands motets under the Glossa label, György Vashegyi and his ensembles, the Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir, continue to record masterpieces of French musical heritage under the auspices of the CMBV. Hailed at the time as a worthy successor of Lalande in the field of sacred music, Mondonville knew unparalleled success and fame at the Concert Spirituel de Paris, and his motets were performed there for over twenty years. After recording rare, sometimes hitherto unpublished works, the Hungarian conductor now tackles Mondonville’s absolute masterpieces - In exitu Israël, Dominus regnavit and Cœli enarrant. With valuable input from CMBV research and performance practice, his interpretation will indubitably shed fresh light on these emblematic works from the French Age of Enlightenment, accompanied by a motet by his great rival, Jean-Philippe Rameau.
