The Lyon Usquequo Domine
Henry Desmarest (1661-1741)
Collaboration commenced in 2022 between the CMBV, Les Surprises and the Sinfonia en Périgord festival. Another public concert built around two stunning Te Deums now takes the stage.
Everyone will recognise the opening bars of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Te Deum, but few are familiar with Henry Desmarest’s equally stunning Lyon Te Deum. Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas has chosen to feature both of these works (edited by CMBV researchers) to bring to life the religious fervour that marked French baroque music during the Grand Siècle and the Age of Enlightenment.
Baroque specialist soloists accompany Les Surprises singers and musicians. Its young conductor, Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, following in the footsteps of Hervé Niquet, takes up the challenge to showcase this rarely performed repertoire.
