Program
- Te deum in D major, H 146 by Marc-Antoine Charpentier
- Te Deum ‘de Lyon’ & Usquequo Domine ‘de Lyon’ by Henry Desmarest
The CMBV joint residency project in Périgueux with the ensemble Les Surprises focuses on French sacred music and features two splendid Te Deums by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Henry Desmarest.
Everyone knows the opening lines of Charpentier’s Te Deum but this is not the case for Henry Desmarest’s equally dazzling Te Deum ‘de Lyon’. The CMBV’s third joint residency event at the Périgueux festival will feature these two works, which have been published by the CMBV’s research department. Louis-Noël Bestion selected them to to showcase the religious fervour that permeated France during the Grand Siècle and the Age of Enlightenment. With music and vocals by the ensemble Les Surprises accompanied by baroque soloists, this budding conductor, trained by Hervé Niquet, takes up the torch in order to promote this rarely performed repertoire.
