Fabien Armengaud and his CMBV choir Les Pages will be putting on a totally original programme in Hungary focusing on sacred music for children’s choirs.
At the invitation of György Vashegyi, loyal associate of the CMBV for over ten years, Fabien Armengaud will be performing his first concert abroad, conducting Les Pages and the Orfeo Orchestra in an iconic programme for children’s choirs featuring Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Haydn’s Missa sub titulo Sancti Leopoldi pro festo Innocentum.
The Stabat Mater, a masterpiece by a composer who died at only 26, has resonated through the ages and around the world. In France it was performed uninterruptedly at the Concert Spirituel from 1753 to 1790 and was known at court in Versailles, as proven by a score found in the King’s library. It is this version which will be performed.
Johann Michael Haydn, Joseph’s brother, was along with Mozart the most important musician at the court of the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg in the latter part of the 18th century. He had been a choirboy at St Stephen’s cathedral in Vienna and left over thirty pieces for children’s choirs, like this sublime Mass, composed for Salzburg cathedral.
