Keen to spot today’s finest baroque singers and highlight neglected French opera music, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles has created or supported ‘imaginary operas’ and recitals based on well-known and lesser-known works by Lully, Charpentier, Lalande, Marais, Desmarest, Campra, Destouches, Stuck, Montéclair, Colin de Blamont, Boismortier, Rameau, Leclair, Royer, Mondonville, Bury, Cardonne, Dauvergne, Piccinni and Gluck.
Apart from regularly recording unabridged operas, the CMBV has produced a series of concerts and original opera mixes on CD to arouse the public’s interest in little known works and offer a glimpse of the richness of the French repertoire and the treasures languishing in libraries around the world, waiting to be resurrected, restored and performed.
