The second year of the Janus project (an innovative CMBV / Ircam joint venture) features French baroque music and works by young composers Justina Repečkaité and Jug Marković.
Like Janus, the double-faced Roman god who looks towards both the past and the future, for several years the CMBV has teamed up with the Ircam research institute, commissioning for its choir Les Pages & Les Chantres four works by four young European composers, with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
After the premiere of Split Screen Vestiges by Spanish composer Ariadna Alsina Tarrés at the ManiFeste festival in 2023, two new works will be premiered in 2024, one by Lithuanian composer Justina Repečkaité for children’s choir and serpent. He is fascinated by the phenomenon of the breaking of the voice that affects young male singers. Also, Serbian composer Jug Marković, moving away from the five voices typical of French choral music, offers a piece for mixed choir. Juxtaposing these works are pieces of 17th and 18th century French baroque music, creating a mirror image of historical and contemporary music. The present meets the past and contemplates the future !
