Zoroastre
Tragédie en musique in Five Acts (1749 version)
Music by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764)
Libretto by Louis de Cahusac (1706-1759)
In 2021 Alexis Kossenko’s joint residency with the CMBV and the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing produced a revival of Rameau’s 1749 version of Zoroastre. With the release of the record, a further tour of magical performances is planned.
A fan of the composer and of musicology in general, Alexis Kossenko coproduced Achante et Céphise with the CMBV in 2020. He has now embarked on Zoroastre, another hitherto unperformed work by Rameau. With editorial assistance from Société Jean-Philippe Rameau and expert input from the CMBV, he has produced a historically informed version of the work respecting the number and arrangement of the musicians, the style and playing technique. He is supported by world class repertoire singers including Reinoud Van Mechelen, Mathias Vidal, Jodie Devos, Véronique Gens and Tassis Christoyannis. The record released this Spring will help further this ambitious project. Two concerts, one in Paris and one in Compiègne, have been added to the scheduled tour. It marks a welcome opportunity to hear the Namur Chamber Choir, long-established partners of the CMBV.
