Gloria RV589 (version for equal voices)
For Fabien Armengaud’s first season leading the CMBV choir school, he joins forces with cellist Ophélie Gaillard and the Pulcinella ensemble on a new musical voyage from Turin to Venice.
‘Alla francese’ invites audiences to travel from Turin to Venice by way of Quirino Gasparini’s touching Stabat Mater (published in France in 1776) and Vivaldi’s masterpiece Gloria RV589 - a rare version for equal voices composed for the Ospedale della Pietà. Ophélie Gaillard, keen to highlight little known works, will also present a new reconstitution of a sinfonia and concerto by Prete Rosso. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, a famous fan of alla francese, made the following comment about the Orphelines de la Pietà, ‘‘I can think of no music as voluptuous or touching as this – these delightful pieces combine to produce an effect which cannot but move the listener”.
