Programme
Arias from operas by Grétry, Piccinni, Cherubini, Dalayrac, Martini, Steibelt, Méhul, Gaveaux, Rigel and others
Long associated with the CMBV, Mathias Vidal records his first recital of operas under the French Revolution with the Orkester Nord and Martin Wåhlberg conducting, embarking on a revival of French musical heritage.
Following the critical acclaim for the performance and recording of Grétry’s Raoul Barbe-Bleue at the Trondheim Barokkfest, the CMBV is pursuing its collaboration with the young Norwegian ensemble Orkester Nord founded by Martin Wåhlberg who is also a specialist of late 18th century French opera. The ensemble decided to invite the tenor Mathias Vidal, known for his French repertoire and a regular performer with the CMBV for over twenty years, to record his first recital of stunning operatic arias staged during the French Revolution at the Opéra-Comique and Paris Opera (renamed Théâtre des Arts et de la République). As well as well-known musicians like Cherubini, Méhul and Grétry, the CMBV has included names famous at the time such as Dalayrac, Gaveaux, Martini, Rigel, Steibelt and Vogel.
