Le Concert in the French provinces have recently been the subject of major research at the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, particularly through the AcadéC project, leading to a reassessment of their importance within the urban landscape. This new session of the research seminar of the CESR’s ‘The European Stage – Performing Arts, Art of Performance’ research group will broaden the scope of inquiry to Enlightenment Europe.

What place did France occupy within the European musical landscape, and more specifically in the development of the public concert? How did the concert take shape in both public and domestic spaces, and how was it embraced by different forms of sociability?

Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, this session will examine the notion of cultural transfer and open up new perspectives for research.
