Lost is my quiet
Paisible indifférence
Pur ti miro
Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
This programme showcases the 17th- and 18th-century repertoire for two high voices, marking the graduation recital of Guillemette Loubert and Sidonie Bensa, singers with the choir of the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles.
In putting together their programme, the two Chantresses have drawn on the Leçons de ténèbres, oratorios, duets and cantatas by great Baroque composers. Some of the works selected were not written for two female voices, nor even for two female characters; this recital therefore explores different ways of bringing together two high voices within the Baroque repertoire today.
As the first part of the concert, dedicated to sacred music, draws to a close, characters gradually emerge, leading us towards more human concerns and bringing to the fore a central theme of the Baroque repertoire: should we allow ourselves to be guided by our emotions, at the risk of suffering, or should we set them aside to enjoy the benefits of inner peace?
