For this season’s Jeudis musicaux Fabien Armengaud has chosen four different themes to showcase the four Music Masters at the Royal Chapel. The CMBV choirs Les Pages & Les Chantres will perform in the Royal Chapel at Versailles.
The season’s first theme, For Equal Voices, features convent music, music from the royal house of Saint-Cyr, as well as music from the early 18th century Italianate music salons, showcasing composers such as Collasse, Lorenzani, Lemaire, Dumont and Danielis. The panorama of 17th and 18th century French Mass will include hitherto unknown musicians François Cosset, Louis Grénon and Pierre Bouteiller and will give audiences a chance to hear Charpentier’s famous Midnight Mass. There follows a more literary theme, the Psalms of David, set to music by Schütz (known as ‘the Dresden Orpheus’ at the time) and by Charpentier. The final theme, Les goûts réunis, term borrowed from François Couperin, presents a musical dialogue between French and Italian styles.
Sébastien Daucé, the new conductor in residence at the CMBV choir school will direct two exceptional Jeudis musicaux devoted to Sacred Histories by Clérambault and Charpentier and to hitherto unpublished works from the Deslauriers manuscript.
At Jeudis musicaux performances, the CMBV choir school will be joined by instrumentalists from Versailles Grand Parc, Paris-Saclay, PSBB and Paris regional conservatoires.
