Programme
Arias and cantatas by Michel Pignolet de Montéclair, Paolo Lorenzani, Nicolas Racot de Grandval, André Campra and Louis-Nicolas Clérambault. Excerpts from operas by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre.
This selection of airs de cour, cantatas and extracts from operas selected by conductor and harpsirchordist Camille Delaforge recreates the atmosphere in French salons during the Grand Siècle. It is the first time her ensemble Il Caravaggio’s partakes in the CMBV Résidences Croisées joint residency project in Sablé-sur-Sarthe.
Accompanied by Marie Perbost, Anna Reinhold and Thibault de Damas, the younger generation of French baroque singers, Camille Delaforge joins the residency project at the Sablé festival with the CMBV. Under the auspices of Louis XIV, the refined art of the early 18th century showcases its airs sérieux, airs à boire, cantatas, instrumental pieces and excerpts from opera. Alongside the likes of André Campra, François Couperin, Michel Pignolet de Montéclair and Nicolas Racot de Grandval two atypical female composers take pride of place. The mysterious ‘Mademoiselle B’ features with a musette composition, and one can also admire excerpts from the better known Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre’s Céphale et Procris, a tragédie lyrique which met with great success at the Académie Royale de Musique in 1694.
